Abstract

One of the basic materials of iron sand iron, which is very abundant in Indonesia and spread in various islands. Iron sand can be processed into products such as iron reduced directly into pig iron. In the process of making direct iron reduced, iron sand briquettes will be reduced by heating to dampen the furnace until 950oC for 3 hours then carried out at 1350oC for 10 hours, then cooling for 12 hours in a dampening furnace. The direct reduced of the iron obtained is then melted using Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology with 180 A current, 16.2 volt for 6 minutes. In this research will discuss the effect of addition of flux type on the direct iron reduced process to the recovery of Fe and the total Fe content in the process of making pig iron by electric arc furnace method. There are three types of flux variations used are Silica Dioxide (SiO2), Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) and Magnesium Oxide (MgO). The results of this process will be calculated recovery of Fe and characterized using XRD motors, and EDX. From the results of the study seen directly iron reduced with total Fe content of 75.722%. Furthermore, direct iron melting result with SiO2 flux variation has the highest Fe content and Fe recovery which is the highest is 91,585% and 98,78%
