Abstract

Sebagian besar industri tempe masih membuang limbahnya langsung ke badan air tanpa pengolahan terlebih dulu. Limbah cair yang dihasilkan dari industri tempe masih mengandung padatan tersuspensi dan terlarut yang dapat mencemari perairan, oleh karena itu harus diturunkan kadarnya sebelum dibuang ke perairan. Constructed wetland (CW) merupakan salah satu alternatif pengolahan limbah yang efektif, efisien, dan tidak membutuhkan biaya besar.
Pada penelitian ini menggunakan sistem subsurface flow constructed wetlands dengan aliran batch dan intermittent. Cyperus rotundus dan Scirpus grossus merupakan tumbuhan yang telah terbukti mampu mendegradasi pencemar organik dalam wetland alami. Air limbah yang akan digunakan terdiri dari limbah rebusan, rendaman, dan campuran. Reaktor yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini diisi dengan media pasir sebagai medium utama dan kerikil sebagai media penyangga. Penelitian pendahuluan yang dilakukan berupa aklimatisasi tumbuhan dan range finding test untuk menentukan konsentrasi limbah cair yang akan digunakan pada uji phytotreatment. Uji phytotreatment dengan sistem aliran batch dilakukan selama 20 hari dan dengan sistem aliran intermittent dilakukan selama 21 hari. Analisis dilakukan terhadap parameter utama dan parameter monitor. Parameter utama, yaitu meliputi BOD, COD, dan TSS sedangkan parameter monitor, yaitu pH, suhu, dan morfologi tumbuhan.
Pada range finding test (RFT) menunjukkan bahwa Cyperus rotundus dan Scirpus grossus bisa bertahan hidup pada konsentrasi 10% di setiap jenis limbah cair tempe. Pada penelitian utama menunjukkan Cyperus rotundus memberikan efisiensi terbesar pada semua variasi jenis limbah dengan aliran sistem batch dan intermittent. Efisiensi removal BOD, COD, TSS menggunakan SSF-CWs aliran batch pada limbah rebusan sebesar 81%, 69%, 47%; pada limbah rendaman sebesar 82%, 76%, 43%; dan pada limbah campuran sebesar 81%,68%, 40%. Efisiensi removal BOD, COD menggunakan SSF-CWs aliran intermittent pada limbah rebusan 59%, 37%; pada limbah rendaman sebesar 66%, 41%; pada limbah campuran sebesar 68%, 33%.

Most of Tempe (fermented soybean cake) industry throwing their waste directly into the water without pre-treatment. Those liquid waste contain some suspended and dissolved solids that make water contaminated, so before those waste put into the water, needed to decrease the concentration of the solid pollutant. Constructed wetland (CW) is one of waste treatment alternatives that is effective, efficient, and does not require large cost.
In this research uses subsurface flow constructed wetlands system with batch and intermittent flow. Cyperus rotundus and Scirpus grossus are plants that have been shown to degrade organic pollutants in natural wetland. Wastewater to be used consists of waste stew, marinade, and mixture. The reactor used in this study is filled with sand media as the main medium and gravel as a buffer medium. Preliminary research conducted in the form of plant acclimatization and range finding test to determine the concentration of liquid waste that will be used in phytotreatment test. Phytotreatment test with batch flow system was carried out for 20 days and with intermittent flow system performed for 21 days. The analysis is performed on the main parameters and monitor parameters. The main parameters, which include BOD, COD, and TSS while monitor parameters, namely pH, temperature, and plant morphology.
In the range of finding test (RFT) showed that Cyperus rotundus and Scirpus grossus could survive at 10% concentration in each type of tempe liquid waste. In the main study showed Cyperus rotundus gave the greatest efficiency in all variations of waste types with batch and intermittent system flow. The efficiency of BOD, COD, TSS removal using SSF-CWs batch flow on waste cooking is 81%, 69%, 47%; in the immersion wastes by 82%, 76%, 43%; and on mixed waste of 81%, 68%, 40%. BOD removal efficiency, COD uses SSF-CWs intermittent flow in 59%, 37%; in 66%, 41% of the bath waste; on mixed waste of 68%, 33%.
