Abstract

Pada penelitian Tugas Akhir ini dilakukan fabrikasi dan karakterisasi directional coupler konfigurasi 2x2 berbahan serat optik plastik moda jamak tipe FD-620-10. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah heating and pressing dengan dua jenis bahan cetakan yaitu dari bahan baja dan aluminium. Fabrikasi directional coupler dilakukan dengan cara memasukkan dua inti serat optic kedalam cetakan yang telah dipanaskan serta memberikan tekanan pada dua inti serat optic tersebut. Pada penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa proses fabrikasi directional coupler menggunkan cetakan bahan alumunium membutuhkan waktu lebih singkat dibandingkan dengan cetakan dari bahan baja. Parameter directional coupler hasil fabrikasi menunjukkan bahwa cetakan yang terbuat dari aluminium menghasilkan hubungan linier antara panjang interaksi directional coupler terhadap parameter fabrikasinya, sebaliknya cetakan pressing dari baja menghasilkan hubungan taklinier. Cetakan pressing yang terbuat dari baja menghasilkan directional coupler yang berfungsi sebagai pembagi berkas dengan proporsi sekitar 50%:50%. Sedangkan directional coupler hasil fabrikasi menggunakan cetakan pressing yang terbuat dari aluminium sangat tergantung pada parameter fabrikasinya terutama beban penekanan.

On this Final Project research it has been done the fabrication and characterization of 2x2 directional coupler configurations made from gradded index plastic optical fiber of FD-620-10. The method used in the research is heating and pressing with two kinds of pressing mold made of steel and aluminum. The directional coupler fabrication is done by inserting two optical fiber cores into the heated mold and giving the certain pressure to the two optical fiber cores. The results obtained from this research are, the directional coupler resulted using aluminum pressing mold is faster than the steel pressing. The resultant fabrication directional coupler parameter shows that the pressing mold of aluminium produces a linear relationship between the length of the directional coupler interaction with its fabrication parameters, the pressing mold of steel produces a nonlinear relationship.The pressing mold of steel gives the proportion of directional coupler light output which functions as beam splitter by proportion in the range of 50%: 50%. While the function of directional coupler fabrication result using pressing mold of aluminum is very dependent on the fabrication parameters, especially the emphasis load.
