Abstract
============== Heat exchanger is an equipment that exchange heat between two or more different temperature fluids. One type of heat exchanger used in industrial heat transfer process is shell and tube heat exchanger type (STHE). Temperature and high pressure on STHE cause the heat exchanger performance to decrease due to fouling. Some research that has been done to reduce the fouling is by designing heat exchanger more efficiently and periodic cleaning of heat exchanger. In this research, optimization is done to determine the geometry of shell and tube heat exchanger to obtain minimum fouling resistance. Fouling resistance modeling using Polley model. Fouling resistance values can affect changes in heat duty (Q), pump performance (Wp) heat transfer area (Ao). Determining the cleaning schedule can affect the fouling reisitance value. The value changes on these quantities may affect saving results (JHE). Optimization limits are heat duty and pressure drop. The optimization is done by using some stochastic methods namely Genetic Algorithm (GA), Rain Water Optimization (RWA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Khiller Whale Algorithm (KWA) and Duelist Algorithm (DA). The optimized variables are the inner diameter of the shell (Ds ), outer diameter of tube (do), and number of baffles (Nb). From the optimization result, there was decreased value of overall fouling resistance on each method of GA, RWA, PSO, KWA and DA consecutively 40.57%; 40.06%; 40.15%; 40.10%; 41.72%. The decrease of fouling resistance value resulted in saving (JHE) increased in each method of GA, RWA, PSO, KWA and DA consecutively 9.2%; 7.1%; 7.4%; 7.7%; 9.7%.
