Abstract
============= In this research, we did study about the effect of crystallization time in the synthesis of sodalite from kaolin using treatment. The treatment has been done by leaching with sulfuric acid 1,5 M at 80 °C. The synthesis of sodalite used kaolin residue from leaching process. Molar ratio of the synthesized sodalite is 3Na2O:1.5SiO2:Al2O3:128H2O with various of crystallization time 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12, 24, 36 and 48 hours at 100 °C. The final product is characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray Difraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy–Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The result from XRD and FT-IR showed that the early phase of sodalite formed at crystallization time 3 hours. Pure sodalite was formed at crystallization time 24, 36 and 48 hours. Crystallinity increases along as increasing of crystallization time. Raw kaolin, kaolin residue from leaching process and synthesized sodalite at crystallization time 6, 24 and 48 hours were applied for adsorption of Pb2+ ion. Standart sodalite used as comparison. The capacity adsorption from standart sodalite, raw kaolin, kaolin residue from leaching process and synthesized sodalite at crystallization time 6, 24 and 48 hours respectively is 919.65; 663.89; 666.10; 945,24; 1069,35 and 1080,76 mg/g.
