Abstract

Beton ringan adalah salah satu bahan alternatif pengganti beton konvensional khususnya dalam menghadapi gempa karena memiliki berat volume dibawah 1840 kg/m3. Diantara material penyusun beton, yang memiliki massa terbesar yaitu agregat kasar, sehingga untuk membuat beton ringan perlu dilakukan suatu inovasi untuk mengurangi massa pada agregat kasar. Salah satunya adalah membuat (Artificial light weight aggregate) ALWA dengan bahan styrofoam.
Pada penelitian ini, styrofoam terlebih dahulu dilarutkan menggunakan aseton kemudian dibentuk menyerupai agregat kasar. Selain itu, digunakan dua jenis semen yaitu OPC dan PPC. Adapun komposisi penambahan styrofoam yang digunakan kedalam beton yaitu dengan prosentase 0%, 15%, 50% dan 100% dari volume agregat kasar.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kuat tekan, modulus elastisitas dan kuat tarik belah yang dihasilkan mengalami penurunan seiring dengan bertambahnya prosentase ALWA yang ditambahkan pada campuran beton. Nilai kuat tekan optimum beton menggunakan campuran semen OPC dengan penambahan 15% 28.06 MPa, nilai kekuatan lentur sebesar 4.52 MPa, nilai modulus elastisitasnya 21496.72 MPa, dan nilai kuat tarik belahnya sebesar 2,66 MPa.

Lightweight concrete is one of the alternative materials as the conventional concrete replacement particularly in coping with the earthquake due to it has a weight volume under 1840 kg/m3. Among the materials of concrete, the one which has the highest mass refers to the coarse aggregates, so that in order to make the lightweight concrete, it is necessary to make an innovation to reduce the mass on coarse aggregate. One of them is to make ALWA (Artificial light weight aggregate) by using styrofoam as its material.
In this study, Styrofoam was firstly dissolved by using acetone then formed to resemble a coarse aggregate. Besides, two types of cement used were OPC and PPC. As for the additional composition of styrofoam used into the concrete dealt with the percentage of 0%, 15%, 50% and 100% of the coarse aggregate volume.
The result of the study showed that the compressive strength and tensile strength produced were decreased along with the increasing of ALWA percentage added to the concrete mix. The optimum amount of concrete compressive strength using OPC cement mixture with the addition of 15% was 28.06 MPa, flexural strength amounted 4.52 MPa, modulus of elasticity amonted of 21496.72 MPa and tensile strength amounted of 2.66 MPa.
