Abstract

=============== The growth of technology has become the center of the spotlight these days. The faster the technology advancing, the greater the demand of the electricity. The electrical power needed is not compatible with the electric power generated, due to the high cost of generator operation.
Optimal power flow analysis is the best option to answer the previous problem, where the analysis aims to minimize operating costs while maintaining optimum output power while keeping the existing constraints such as the effect of valve and so on. The valve effect is the effect made by the opened valve when the generator operates, causing the cost curve of each generating unit to be non-smooth. Mathematic optimization is a method to solve optimal power flow, also known as Artificial Intellegence method.

In this final project topic, optimal power flow with valve effect will be solved by a heuristic optimization method called Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) method. The implementation of Grey Wolf Optimization is to find optimal output power from each generator, which is aimed to minimize the objective function (price) when it meets any
constraints. System IEEE 9 Bus and 30 Bus data will be used of generating unit and will be simulated in Matlab. The number of the operating generator, which is the result of the simulation, will be compared with the result of the previous method.
