Abstract
=============== One of the facilites that shipyards can offer in Batam and Singapore is the service of
fabricating ship blocks and offshore building blocks where the blocks will be fabricated in a
shipyard and will be transferred to another shipyard for later be joined. In the process of
transferring the blocks it will be needed a kind of transportation that could transport the
blocks from one shipyard to another via inwater way. This final project will be discussing
about a transportation in a form of self-propelled barge which its purpose will be transporting
the blocks in order to save costs from expansions such as renting a regular barge and a
tugboat. The technical issues that will be discussed in this final project are deciding the main
particulars of the ship, hull form coefficients, the ship’s resistance and propulsion, freeboard,
ship’s stability, trim, and the loading off-loading procedure. The economical issues that will
be discussed in this final project are the calculation of the building costs, the ship’s renting
price, break even point, and the comparison of renting cost between the self-propelled barge
and existing tugs and barges. The ship’s main dimensions are length per pendicular (LPP):
89,2 meters, breadth (B): 21,1 meters, draft (T); 2 meters, and height (H): 4,3 meters, with a
service speed: 10 knots. This self-propelled barge has the capacity to three blocks with a
maximum area of 20 x 18 meter cubic and maximum weight of 270 tons. The renting price for
this self-propelled barge is Rp. 6.700.000.000.
