Abstract

============================================================
Carbon dioxide (CO2) absorption is the important part in industrial.. Particularly in petrochemical, oil and gas industries, as the most contributed in CO2 releasing, need to remove the CO2 gas since it was the acid and corrosive gas. Since the importance of CO2 removal from gas stream, the use of methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) with promotor is chosen as the way for reactive absorption. Thus the experiment proposed to find the CO2 absorption kinetic velocity in MDEA solution using Glycine and L-Glutamic Acid promotor and compared it with the data from literature. Glycine and L-Glutamic Acid are chosen since they are reactive amino acid thus rising the CO2 absorption kinetic velocity in MDEA solution. The chosen method for this experiment was absorption using wetted Wall Column in a laboratorium scale with 1 atm pressure. The purpose of this experiment was to find out the reaction kinetic data in order to optimize the CO2 separation process in industrial world. The result from this experiment shows the increasing of operating temperature impact on the increasing of CO2 absorption kinetic velocity. CO2 absorption velocity is getting faster along with more promotor addition in solution. The result also shows the addition of Glycine and L-Glutamic Acid mixture as promotor will increase the CO2 absorption velocity in MDEA solution and adequate to cover the weakness of MDEA absorption velocity. From the experiment and data calculation, the constants equation of CO2 absorption kinetic velocity result were kGlycine = 1,06 x 1021 exp (-11604,675/T) (MDEA-Glycine-L-Glutamic Acid system), kL-Glutamic Acid = 2,9 x 1018 exp (-9576,504/T) (MDEA-Glycine-L-Glutamic Acid system), kGlycine’ = 4,68 x 1019 exp (-10443,672/T) (MDEA-Glycine system), kL-Glutamic Acid’ = 3,82 x 1016 exp (-8040,248/T) ( MDEA-L-Glutamic Acid system), and kMDEA = 7,33 x 1022 exp (-14784,199/T) (MDEA system) (m3/kmol.s). The kinetics value of kGlycine has a value of k below Arginine at 303.15 and above Arginine at 313.15 and 323.15. A similar case occured when compared to piperazine which also values k below piperazine at 303.15; but for the temperature of 313.15 has almost the same value and above piperazine at 323.15. For the value of kL-Glutamic Acid has value above piperazine and arginine in all temperature range.
