Abstract

This research uses basic material of rGO charcoal powder from old coconut shell. The rGO powder was synthesized with 1 M HCl and FeCl3 solution stirred with a magnetic stirrer at 70°C. The addition of glucose and doping nitrogen from nitrogen gas aim to increase the value of specific capacitance of the supercapacitor electrode during chemical and mechanical exfoliation processes. This study aims to determine the effect of addition of glucose and nitrogen gas by bubbling method on the capacitance values and energy density of EDLC supercapacitor. Electrode characterization uses several measurements. Testing for the basic material includes XRD, SEM-EDX, XRF, and CHONS Analyzer. Testing for the synthetic rGO electrode uses PSA and CV. The results of XRD, XRF, and CHONS Analyzer show that the basic material is rGO with diffraction angles 2θ = 22.91º and 43.49º, and the most dominant element is carbon (C), that is 53.65%. The result of SEM shows the morphology of layers are stacked irregularly. The result of PSA shows that the synthesis process increases the size of rGO particle. The result of CV shows the sample with ingredients rGO:HCl:Fe:Glu = 2:2:1:2 has the largest capacitance value as the control sample with a value of 23.67 F/g and the sample with ingredients of rGO:HCl:Fe:Glu = 2:2:1:2 with a half minute gas flow nitrogen has the largest capacitance value for the sample variation with a value of 21.67 F/g. The addition of nitrogen gas flow time through bubbling method may decrease the value of the specific capacitance of the supercapacitor.
