Abstract

Average of air quality status in Surabaya in good
condition status only less than 24% in a year (Anonymous, 2008).
Dispersion of pollutants in the ambient is affected by
meteorological factors and height of the inversion layer that limit
the mixing height in the city of Surabaya. This study was
conducted to analyze the relationship between meteorological
factors and the height of the inversion layer, and also the ambient
air quality in the city of Surabaya.
Correlation of meteorological factors on the inversion
layer height and ambient air quality in the city of Surabaya
analyzed by Pearson correlation method. Correlations were
conducted assumed under normal conditions so the
meteorological data (wind speed and global radiation) and air
quality (concentration of SO2, NO2 and O3) that is used is from the
data scoping (00.00 am and 12.00 pm) with the 10% percentile
value. The data obtained from the inversion layer height profile
radiosonde temperature measurement results.
Inversion layer in Surabaya is a subsidence inversion.
The inversion layer is inversely correlated at 00:00 pm and is
directly proportional correlation at 12.00 against the wind speed,
while not correlated to the strength of the radiation. Correlation of
inversion layer height with SO2 concentration of ambient air
quality is inversely related, but not correlated with NO2 and O3.
While the wind speed is negatively correlated with NO2. Radiation
strength parameters were negatively correlated with SO2 and
NO2, but the correlation is directly proportional to O3.
