Abstract

Agregat artifisial memiliki berat jenis
sebesar 1,85 gram/cm3 sehingga agregat artifisial memiliki berat jenis 44 persen
lebih ringan bila dibandingkan berat jenis agregat kasar alami.
============================================================
Concrete is a material made from coarse and fine aggregates besides cement and
water as the binder. These aggregates form the highest portion of approximately 70
percent of the total volume of concrete. Normally, aggregates are obtained from
natural resources. However, some areas have only very limited supply of
aggregates. To prevent the environmental damage from this aggregate exploitation
from its natural resources, the natural aggregates of the concrete can be replaced by
the artificial ones consisting of fly ash, lime, silica fumes, etc. It can be produced
by several methods and one of them is by the cold-bonded method. The resulting
aggregates made by this method are the pellet-shaped aggregate with the size of 10
to 20 mm. The mixture proportion of this aggregate consists of 70 percent fly ash,
30 percent lime, and additional 25 percent silica fume of the lime weight. The
mechanical properties and characteristics of the artificial aggregate was
investigated which include the impact, abrasion, volume weight, and specific
gravity tests. The impact and abrasion test values were found to be 18.83 and 55.97
percent, respectively. The concrete compressive test using artificial aggregate has
the average value of 32 MPa at the age of 28 days. Concrete with artificial aggregate
has much lower density than normal-weight concrete. The artificial aggregate has
a density of 1.85 gram/cm3 such that it is 44 percent lighter than the natural coarse
aggregate.
