Abstract

Nogogeni is a prototype car that uses electricity and
ethanol, has all the components that support the performance of the car. One important part that accepts the entire load of the car is the wheel shaft. The Nogogeni car wheel shaft is required to be able to hold all car loads without plastic deformation and must have good hardness to be resistant and durable and have the toughness to withstand impact loads.
To obtain a shaft characteristic, induction hardening heat is carried out with a heating temperature of 900 ○ C, with a variation of 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 45 minutes holding time using water cooling media.
After conducting hot induction hardening and testing, various results were obtained. The variation of 15 minutes holding time obtained metallographic results with a percentage of 71% martensite, skin hardness of 47.5 HRC and average impact strength of 637.7 Kg/cm. The variation of 30 minutes holding time obtained metallographic results with a percentage of 43,1%, skin hardness of 47.5 HRC and impact strength of 567.8 Kg/cm then the variation of 45 minutes holding time obtained metallographic results with a percentage of 36,9% martensite, Hardness 48 HRC and impact strength 505.4 Kg /cm.
