Abstract

Eco-cement is a type of cement products whose the raw materials using waste-based materials and environmentally friendly. Lack of use of shellfish shells and also there is a research about eco-cement, as the reason of this research. The purpose of this research are to understand how to reduce shellfish shells (Anadara Grandis) waste, in order to have added value and to understand how the comparison mix shellfish shells and limestone which suite of eco-cement which produced according to SNI 15-2049-2004 and to understand physical properties which covers compressive strength test and setting time test of eco-cement which produced.
The eco-cement manufacturing procedure includes preparation stage, raw materials pre-treatment stage, manufacturing stage which covers materials mix, burning and milling, analyzing stage such as compressive strength test and setting time test.
Eco-cement test results in the substitution of 0%, 20%, 40%, 60% and 100% shellfish shells, showed more substitution of shellfish shells then the compressive strength decreased, but increased in every age and for the cement setting time is getting longer. The best results are on variable 0% shells (blank), with the main mineral content of C3S 67,27%; C2S 4,95%; C3A 5,29% and C4AF 8,9%. The test data show the results on eco-cement with substitution of 20%, 40%, 60% and 100% shellfish shells are not better than the blank, it indicates that the substitution of shellfish shells in the manufacture of eco-cement is less effective.
