Abstract

Partial discharge is an electrical discharge that connects two high voltage electrodes that should not be connected. Partial discharge can cause insulation failure if did not handled immediately and the worse can cause a decrease in the quality of the equipment to damage to high voltage equipment. Partial discharge that will be discussed is partial discharge that appears in the oil insulation that has been heated to a certain temperature. Partial discharge generated in oil insulation will be detected by the very high frequency (VHF) method using antennas and leakage current using high frequency current transformer. The electrode used is point to plane electrode. Oil insulation is heated with a range of transformer operating temperature. The temperature is 30° C, 45° C, 60°C, 75° C, 90° C. The plants used is AC type with a frequency of 2.4 GHz. The signal is taken using acquisition equipment, namely very high frequency (VHF). The data taken will be processed to display the Phase Resolved Partial Discharge (PRPD). Processed result will be analyzed for the effect of heating temperature on the partial discharge pattern. The test result showed that the oil insulation temperature affected the partial discharge pattern. The temperature of the oil affects the inception voltage because the higher the temperature of the oil, the more water vapor that appears as a contaminant can affect the voltage at the time of the partial discharge.
