Abstract
Pada penelitian ini, CaO digunakan sebagai katalis dalam produksi biodiesel dari minyak kemiri sunan (Reutealis trisperma Oil). Minyak kemiri sunan (R. trisperma) adalah bahan baku yang menarik untuk dijadikan biodiesel. Biodiesel telah diproduksi dengan dua tahap reaksi, yaitu esterifikasi dengan katalis H2SO4 dan dilanjutkan reaksi transesterifikasi dengan katalis CaO dari batu kapur Bukit Jaddih, Madura. Reaksi esterifikasi dilakukan dengan mereaksikan minyak kemiri sunan dengan metanol pada suhu 65°C selama 2 jam, perbandingan metanol:minyak (3:1), dan berat katalis H2SO4 3% berat minyak. Reaksi transesterifikasi telah dilakukan selama 3 jam pada suhu 65°C dengan variasi konsentrasi katalis (5, 7, 9, dan 11% berat), perbandingan metanol:minyak (9:1, 12:1, 15:1, dan 18:1 (berat/berat)) dan suhu kalsinasi (700, 800, 900, dan 1000°C). Yield optimum diperoleh saat kondisi reaksi pada suhu 65°C, waktu 180 menit, perbandingan berat metanol:minyak 15:1, suhu kalsinasi 900°C, dan konsentrasi katalis CaO 7% berat dengan yield sebesar 36,78%.

In this study, production of biodiesel from Reutealis trisperma oil (RTO) using CaO as catalyst was investigated. Reutealis trisperma oil is an attractive raw material for production of biodiesel. Biodiesel was produced by two steps of reactions, i.e. esterification with H2SO4 as catalyst and followed by transesterification with CaO from Jaddih Hill’s limestone, Madura as catalyst. Esterification reaction has been carried out by reacting Reutealis trispesma oil with methanol for 2 hours, ratio methanol:oil (3:1), catalyst concentration 3 wt%. Transesterification reaction was carried out for 3 hours at temperature 65°C with variation of catalyst concentration (5, 7, 9, dan 11 wt%), ratio methanol:oil (9:1, 12:1, 15:1, dan 18:1 (wt/wt)) and calcination temperature (700, 800, 900, dan 1000°C). The optimum yield was obtained when the reaction conditions at 65°C, 180 minutes, ratio methanol:oil 15:1 (wt/wt), calcination temperature 900°C, catalyst concentration of 7 wt% CaO and provides FAME yield of 36,78%.
