Abstract

Stunting is a condition in which children's growth is not optimal due to malnutrition since the womb, which can affect the quality of human resources. Basic Health Research 2018 noted that the national stunting prevalence among children under five had reached 30.8%. This number is still above the reasonable limit of stunting prevalence set by WHO, which is 20%. Based on the Basic Health Research 2018, East Java is one of the provinces that has a stunting prevalence above the national average. Therefore, this research was conducted to determine the factors that influence the stunting status of children under five in East Java. The data used are secondary data from the Indonesian Family Life Survey 2015 with the response variable in the form of stunting status, divided into two categories, namely severely stunted (0) and stunted (1). Therefore, the method used in this study was binary probit regression. The predictor variables included birth weight, maternal height, maternal education level, exclusive breastfeeding, consumption of blood-boosting pills, number of household members, and household economic status. The total data collected consisted of 146 toddlers, including 102 stunted toddlers and 44 severely stunted toddlers. Variables that had a significant effect at the 0.05 significance level were maternal education level and non-exclusive breastfeeding. The classification accuracy produced by the model was 67.81%.
