Abstract

Piston adalah salah satu komponen otomotif yang menggunakan paduan aluminium. Piston harus memiliki kekuatan dan kekerasan yang baik pada temperatur tinggi. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perubahan sifat mekanik dan struktur mikro dari paduan aluminium 339 yang diberi perlakuan artificial aging dengan variasi temperatur dan waktu tahan. Langkah pertama pada penelitian ini adalah proses pengecoran material aluminium dengan unsur paduan tambahan yaitu tembaga, sillikon, dan magnesium. Selanjutnya dilakukan proses perlakuan panas artificial aging dengan variasi temperatur 160, 200, dan 240°C dan variasi waktu tahan 8,12,16 jam. Setelah proses artificial aging selesai dilakukan, uji metalografi, uji XRD, uji kekerasan dan uji tarik dilaksanakan. Hasil pengujian metalografi pada spesimen temperatur 160oC telah terlihat presipitat Mg2Si. Hal ini sesuai dengan hasil uji XRD yang menunjukkan adanya fasa presipitat Mg2Si. Presipitat Mg2Si menyebabkan terjadinya kenaikkan kekerasan dan kekuatan yang dibuktikan melalui uji kekerasan dan uji tarik. Kekerasan dan kekuatan teritinggi didapatkan pada temperatur aging 200ºC dengan waktu tahan aging 16 jam sebesar 193,67 Mpa dan 182,67 HB.

A piston is an automotive component that uses aluminum alloy. Pistons must have good strength and hardness at high temperatures. This study is to determined changes in the mechanical properties of aluminum alloy 339 pistons which were treated with artificial aging with variations in temperature and time of resistance. First is the process of casting aluminum material with additional alloying elements, namely copper, silicon and magnesium. The artificial aging heat treatment process was then carried out with temperature variations of 160,200 and 240°C and variations in holding time of 8,12.16 hours. After the artificial aging process was completed, metallographic, XRD, hardness and tensile tests were carried out. Metallographic test results on 160oC temperature specimens have seen Mg2Si precipitates. This is in accordance with the results of the XRD test which shows the presence of the precipitate phase Mg2Si. The Mg2Si precipitates cause an increase in hardness and strength as evidenced by hardness and tensile tests. The highest hardness and strength were obtained at an aging temperature of 200ºC with a 16-hour aging resistance of 193.67 Mpa and 182.67 HB.
