Abstract

In ad hoc networks, communication between wireless devices can be done even in a very dynamic position. So, we need a network that can regulate the traffic of these devices to maintain the quality of relationships between that devices. Then came a network called Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs). VANETs have high mobility node characteristic and limited movement pattern. There are many routing protocols that can be implemented on VANETs and one of them is Ad hoc On demand Distance Vector (AODV). AODV is a reactive routing protocol, a protocol that will only create a route when the source node needs it. One of AODV phases is route discovery that used for requesting and forwarding a route information that consist of Route Request (RREQ) and Route Reply (RREP). In the Route Discovery process, all nodes will broadcast the RREQ packet, so it takes a long time to find the route. The researcher managed to overcome this problem by limiting the broadcast of RREQ packets based on the weight value called Total Weight Route (TWR). The modification is called AODV with Predicting Node Trend (AODV-PNT). In TWR calculation process, each value of the node movement factor has a certain weight, so that the weight values of each of these factors will affect the performance of the routing protocol. This Final Project will analyze the effect of changes in the node’s movement factor value on the formula for calculating the weight value in AODV routing protocol modification with Predicting Node Trend (AODV-PNT). Tests are carried out using various combinations of node’s movement factor value. The expected result is knowing the best combination so that the routing protocol has optimal performance. The evaluation shows that, in the grid scenario the value of Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) has increased by 3,56% and the value of Routing Overhead (RO) has decreased by 1,62% and in the real scenario the value of Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR) has increased by 5%, the value of average End-to-End Delay (E2E) has decreased by 49,34%, and the value of Routing Overhead (RO) has decreased by 2,49%.
