Abstract

Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) adalah salah satu cara untuk melindungi suatu material dari korosi. Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh jenis backfill terhadap arus proteksi dengan coal coke breeze backfill, graphite backfill dan chemical backfill pada perancangan sistem proteksi katodik arus paksa pada baja pipa API 5L grade B dengan menggunakan sumber arus listrik rectifier dan baterai. Penanaman proteksi katodik arus paksa dilakukan selama 15 hari di lingkungan tanah Departemen Teknik Material FTI-ITS. Pada perancangan sistem proteksi katodik arus paksa menggunakan rectifier ditambahkan alat khusus berupa potensio meter dan pada perancangan sistem proteksi katodik menggunakan baterai ditambahkan alat khusus berupa buck converter dc-dc step down agar arus proteksi dapat terbaca. Dari hasil penelitian ini didapati nilai arus yang dihasilkan menggunakan rectifier pada coal coke breeze backfill sebesar 0,8 mA, pada graphite backfill 0,083 mA dan pada chemical backfill sebesar 0,67 mA. Hal ini menunjukkan bawah resistivitas coal coke breeze backfill lebih rendah dibandingan backfill lainnya karena menghasilkan arus proteksi yang tinggi terhadap anoda sehingga katoda lebih terlindungi. Kemudian didapati nilai arus yang dihasilkan menggunakan baterai pada coal coke breeze backfill sebesar 0,782 mA, pada graphite backfill 0,096 mA dan pada chemical backfill sebesar 0,65 mA. Arus listrik yang dihasilkan dari baterai mendekati arus listrik yang dihasilkan rectifier. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa baterai dapat digunakan mengantikan rectifier sebagai sumber arus listrik pada perlindungan katodik arus paksa.

Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) is one way to protect a material from corrosion. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the type of backfill on coal breeze backfill protection flow, graphite backfill and chemical backfill on the design of forced current cathodic protection systems on API 5L grade B steel pipes using a rectifier and battery electric current source. Cultivation of forced current cathodic protection is carried out for 15 days in the soil environment of the FTI-ITS Material Engineering Department. In the design of the cathodic protection system the forced current using a rectifier was added a special tool in the form of a potentiometer and in the design of a cathodic protection system using a battery added a special tool in the form of a buck down step dc dc converter so that the protection current can be read. From the results of this study it was found that the current value generated using rectifiers in backfill coke breeze coal was 0.8 mA, in graphite backfill 0.083 mA and in chemical backfill was 0.67 mA. This shows that the lower coke breeze backfill coal resistivity is compared to other backfills because it produces a high protection current against the anode so the cathode is more protected. Then it was found that the current value generated using the battery in Breeze Breeze Backfill coal was 0.782 mA, in graphite backfill it was 0.096 mA and in the chemical backfill it was 0.65 mA. Electric current generated from the battery approaches the electric current produced by the rectifier. This shows that the battery can be used to replace the rectifier as an electric current source for forced current cathodic protection.
