Abstract

This research aims to develop refrigerated-container loading problem (R-CLP) model for fishery products considering internal temperature distribution. The model considers the optimal temperature of fishery products and internal temperature distribution of refrigerated containers to pack fishery products cargo boxes into refrigerated containers with minimum quality loss. The objective of the developed model is to minimize total cost which consists of penalty cost, quality loss cost, refrigeration cost, and fixed cost with fulfilled quality requirement. The algorithm of the model follows constructive heuristics method based on the wall-building approach. The approach includes real practical loading constraints, such as weight limit, stacking, and vertical stability. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation is performed to obtain temperature distribution data as the parameter for the internal temperature distribution constraint. The developed model can be used for experimentation with various type of fishery products, cargo box dimensions, and temperature distribution data. The numerical experiments result of this research shows significant effect of quality requirement, temperature setting, and cold air velocity to total cost. The comparison between R-CLP with general container loading problem shows the model’s ability to minimize quality loss while also cause tradeoff with reefer volume utilization, penalty cost, and reefer fixed cost.
