Abstract

Lean is a method for a waste elimination. It has four steps, they are (1) identification of waste, (2) classification of waste and its root cause, (3) formulation tools for reduction of root source waste, and (4) test and implementation the solution tools. During that lean manufacturing implementation, some supported tools are required, such as Value Stream Mapping, Root Cause Analysis, 5S, Kanban. However, there are few comprehensive tools that able to support lean manufacturing implementation, starting from waste identification to suggest an improvement for waste elimination. Each waste has a relationship between waste has not become a consideration in determining critical waste. Therefore, this research proposes a tool is Lean Assessment Matrix that could cover the complete stages of lean implementation starting from waste and their cause identification, the critical waste prioritizing as well as provides waste reduction plan alternatives of waste elimination action and their ranks. LAM was developed based on the logic of the House of Risk (HOR) matrix and integrated with the Waste Relationship Matrix (WRM) which accommodates nine types of waste. WRM is used to determine the most influential waste based on its weight. LAM consists of LAM 1 and LAM 2. LAM 1 is used to identify waste, its root causes, and determine critical waste by considering the weight of the influential waste. LAM 2 is used to provide applicative corrective action to eliminate the root causes of selected waste from lean matrix 1 and its rank.
