Abstract

The purpose of Pandaan-Malang toll road development project is to connect two particular districts in East Java Province, Pasuruan district and Malang district. This 37,62km long toll road is part of a bigger toll road that connects two of the largest cities in East Java, Surabaya and Malang. Located in the valley between two large mountains, rainwater that fall into mountain area would flow directly to the toll road. In order to be fully functioning, a drainage system planning of toll road is necessary to prevent rainwater from clumping up on the road that is covered in asphalt.
In this final project, study of existing literatures with the subject of drainage planning was first conducted, followed by data-gathering. The data that are necessary for this final project are as follows: rainfall data, topography map, and the layout of the toll road. After gathering the data, a hydrological analysis was done to procure information regarding the flood discharges and the ditch runoff discharges. A hydraulic analysis was then carried out by designing drainage ditchs which would be utilized to obtain the capacity of the ditch to accommodate discharged water. On top of all the above, water tunnels and bridges were also designed to be deployed on the toll road and river intersections so that the rivers would still be able to flow properly unobstructed by the toll road.
Based on the hydrological analysis from the intersecting rivers, the highest acquired value of flood discharge was 315.25 m3/s. The discovered flood discharge value was then used as a reference for designing the water tunnel and the bridge. The largest water tunnel turned out to be 6m x 6m long and would require box culverts, while the largest bridge’s length was 190m. Through hydrological analysis of the drainage ditch, the largest ditch runoff discharge value was discovered to be 2,188m3/s. The drainage ditch was also planned to require the following materials : pairs of river stones and precast concrete (U-Ditch) that are adjusted accordingly with the ditch’s slope. Furthermore, several complementary structures of drainage system was also included in the plan, such as slope-protecting ditch which has a concrete with a length of 0.2m and a width of 0.2m as the base material, deck drain pipe using a 0.232m diameter PVC (PVC 8’) and drop structure with a height of 0.5m each drop. Therefore, water spilling on the toll road would be able to flow through the drainage ditch without accumulating on the toll road.
