Abstract

Sick Building Syndrome (SBS) is one of phenomenon nowadays. SBS is a medical condition where someone has symptoms or uncomfortable which caused by the surrounding condition inside a building where the person is. Asthma is a condition which the lung airways get narrowed, causing ashmatics’ productivity and life quality derivation. Environmental factor of asthma triggers in apartment physically are bad air quality which caused by pollutants, dusts, and the lack of sunlight. And the psychological factors are small dimension of spaces and the lack of natural light, outdoor and communal space, which create stressful environment. Based on conditions above, the architectural response proposed is an anti-asmagen apartment, an apartement that forces its inhabitants to be healthy both physically and psychologically, so that it can prevent people from having asthma. The approach used is biophilic, which can improve users’ health and well-being by adding natural elements in the apartement. Biophilic is applied through the play of transitional spaces, which are the transitional areas needed especially for asthmatics. The application of biophilic in design such as centralized circulation, green façade, cross ventilation, duplex unit type, and interior of the apartment. And the biophilic transitional spaces proposed are park, atrium, skygarden, skywalk, and balcony.
