Abstract
==============================================================================================================================
Energy sources in Indonesia are still dominated by fossil energy sources, namely oil, coal, and natural gas. BBM or Oil Fuel is one product of petroleum which is one of the main fuels used in Indonesia. According to data the Ministry of Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral, fuel consumption always increases every year. This continued increase in fuel consumption is not offset by the increase in national oil production. To overcome these problems, it is certainly necessary to control the complex plant process. Plantwide control (PWC) design in Petroleum Refining Process successfully resolves these problems, as evidenced by the presence of increased products, energy savings, and the stability of the existing responses. Besides that due to the presence of recycle material and heat integration, the PWC method is very suitable to be applied to this plant. This study combines Luyben’s method and Skogestad's into seven steps, determining objective functions, identifying DOF (Degree of Freedom), determining the rate of production, determining economic variables, adding feedforward controllers, adding supervisory controllers, and optimizing. The application of the PWC to the Petroleum Refining Process at a 5% increase in feed increases the production rate to 5.43 kg/h and 1.59 kg/h at a 5% decrease in feed. Energy savings and increased production rates can increase profits to 5.58 U$/h using the PWC method compared to using the usual PID control strategy. The application of PWC can also produce a stable system response when a disturbance test is carried out as evidenced by decreased settling time, maximum overshoot and steady state error loss.
