Abstract

Rice is a strategic commodity with social, political, and economic value, as it is a staple food in most developing countries. Agricultural production is often constrained by global climate change, such as changes in air temperature, rainfall patterns, and rising sea levels. Climate change also has an impact in the context of plant pests and diseases. This study aims to determine the composition, abundance, diversity, and community similarity in agricultural land in the Paciran Lamongan area and the ITS Sukolilo Campus area in Surabaya. Sampling was carried out using trapping methods in the form of colour pan traps and sweep nets. The composition and abundance of herbivorous insects in both agricultural lands were dominated by insect species from the families Acrididae (Orthoptera), Delphacidae (Hemiptera), and Crambidae (Lepidoptera). The diversity of herbivorous insects in the agricultural land of the Paciran Lamongan area was higher than in the land of the ITS Campus area in Surabaya. The community similarity (CMH) between the two agricultural lands had a similarity value reaching 0.790. The level of leaf damage in the agricultural land in Paciran Lamongan was 28.79%, especially in the vegetative to generative phases, higher than in the agricultural land at the ITS Campus in Surabaya. The intensity of leaf damage occurring in both agricultural lands was categorized as heavy in the vegetative phase and very heavy in the generative phase. The abundance of herbivorous insects showed a non-significant positive (+) correlation value (P> 0.05) only in the agricultural land in Paciran Lamongan, especially in the vegetative phase.
