Abstract

Several industrial activities release highly recalcitrant and dangerous dyes likes methylen blue (MB) into the environment. The use of brown rot fungus Daedalea dickinsii to reduce the concentration of MB dye is an alternative to eliminate waste continuously. The involvement of the Fenton reaction in the concentration reduction of MB by the D. dickinsii was examined in this study. The concentration exchange of MB (final concentration of 75 ppm) was carried out on mineral salt media with and without the addition of Fe2+ with variations of incubation times of 0, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days. Analysis of concentration reduction results was determined by using spectrophotometer UV-Vis. The results showed that the Fenton reaction affects the concentration reduction of MB. The highest removal presentation was obtained on 28 day incubation which 87.282% in the media without the addition of Fe2+ and 89.522 % in the media with the addition of Fe2+. These results indicated that Fe2+ dependent reaction enhanced concentration reduction of MB by D. dickinsii, which showed as involvement of Fenton reaction.
