Abstract
Komponen utama tulang meliputi Hydroxyapatite (HA), yang terdiri atas penyusun kalsium fosfat. Bahan ini memiliki kelebihan diantaranya sifat tidak beracun dan biocompatible sehingga banyak digunakan dalam aplikasi medis (biomaterial). Namun, bahan tersebut juga memiliki kelemahan dalam kekuatan mekanik. Material polietilen HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) memiliki sifat mekanik yang salah satunya kuat dan tahan terhadap temperatur tinggi. Pada penelitian ini berusaha menghasilkan material dental filler berbasis HDPE/HA dengan rasio penambahan HA dengan bantuan menggunakan iradiasi sinar gamma. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dengan adanya penambahan %wt HA (sebelum dan setelah iradiasi) tidak memberikan pengaruh besar terhadap kenaikan kekerasan. Hasil ini didukung dengan analisis FTIR analisis, dimana tidak terjadi perubahan sebelum dan sesudah iradiasi sinar Gamma. Analisis XRD memperlihatkan bahwa iradiasi menyebabkan struktur menjadi amorf. Berdasarkan hasil SEM, memperlihatkan bahwa komposit HDPE mengandung HA dan tidak ditemukan adanya impurities selama proses berlangsung. Material komposit HDPE/HA telah berhasil disintesis namun belum dapat diaplikasikan sebagai dental filler.

Hydroxyapatite (HA) Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 is one of bone component that contain Calcium Phosphate (CaPO4). This material has advantages such as non-toxic and biocompatible properties then potentialy used for medical applications (biomaterials). However, it has disadvantage in low mechanical properties. Polyethylene HDPE material (High Density Polyethylene) have good mechanical properties and resistant to high temperatures. In this study attempted to synthesis HDPE/HA as dental filler material with a ratio of addition of %wt HA by using gamma ray irradiation. The results show that the addition of% wt HA (before and after irradiation) did not have effect on the increase of hardness. This result is supported by FTIR analysis, where there is no change before and after Gamma ray irradiation. XRD analysis shows that irradiation causes the structure to be amorphous. Based on SEM results, it shows that HDPE composites contain HA and no impurities were found during the process. HDPE/HA composite material has been successfully synthesized, but this material composite can not applied.
