Abstract

IDCS is a capacitive sensor that has two electrodes arranged like a periodic comb wherein this study is used to measure the dielectric constant of crude oil. This study aims to get the best IDCs configuration through optimization. The optimization method used is the gradient method and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) method. Limitation of the problem in PSO optimization is obtained based on the results of the optimization using the gradient method, namely the number of electrodes (N) ≠ 1, the length of the electrode (L) ≠ 0, the thickness of the electrode (h) ≠ 1. These results are adjusted to the ability of PCB printing where the width of the electrode and the length of the minimum electrode that can be printed is 1 mm. PSO optimization is done with 50 times convergence iterations and 500 random particles generate several IDCs parameters. These parameters are taken based on the maximum, minimum values and values that often appear. These results include the width of the electrode (a) which is 1 and 3 mm, the distance between two electrodes (b) which has a value of 1 and 3 mm, the number of electrodes is 7, 3, 6 and the electrode length is 7, 5, 4 cm. The calibration results for 36 types of IDCs indicate that the best configuration that produces the smallest error is the S14 sensor. S14 had an error of 20.95% in the air medium, 18.62% in the Paraffin medium and 10.04% in the Glycerol medium. The S14 sensor configuration includes the width of the 1 mm electrode, the distance between two 1 mm electrodes, the number of electrodes 3 and the length of the 4 mm electrode. The measurement results of the dielectric constant of Crude Oil A, B and C at room temperature using S14 type IDCs were 5.84 F / m, 4.3 F / m, and 5.4 F / m.
