Abstract

The depletion of world oil supplies causes scarcity of fuel in the form of gasoline and kerosene. To overcome this, the government promotes the use of biofuels in the form of bioethanol. Bioethanol is ethanol or ethyl alcohol (C2H5OH) from glucose fermentation (C6H12O6) derived from vegetable raw materials. In this study the manufacture of bioethanol originated from banana peel waste. The purpose of this study is to find out the results of bioethanol after being tested 95% and 99% as well as the effect of bioethanol levels derived from banana peels (M. paradisiaca) as a mixture of fuels on motorcycle engines.. The method used in this research consisted of material preparation, pretreatment, hydrolysis, fermentation, distillation, bioethanol property test and engine performance test with initial ignition parameters, specific fuel consumption and emissions. The results obtained in this study were to produce 20% sugar content, fermentation produced 12% ethanol content and 95% distillation of 900 ml and 99% as much as 700 ml. The ethanol level affects motorbike engines, the B50 99% mixture produces faster results in the initial ignition, which is 3-4 times the accelerator, the longest on specific fuel consumption, which is an average of 209 seconds and the lowest on average CO emissions average of 0.0815% and the highest in CO2 emissions with an average of 2.28%.
