Abstract

Banyaknya jumlah limbah dari pelumas bekas yang tidak digunakan dalam waktu yang lama merubah sifat dari fisik dan kimianya, dan menghasilkan B3 (bahan berbahaya dan beracun) yang dapat mencemari lingkungan. Permasalahan tersebut dapat diminimalisir dengan memanfaatkan kembali pelumas bekas menjadi base oil. Tujuan proyek akhir ini yaitu mengolah pelumas bekas dari mesin-mesin alat berat dengan metode acid clay treatment, dan mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan bentonit sebagai absorben dan lama waktu sedimentasi terhadap kualitas base oil yang dihasilkan. Rasio bentonit divariasi terhadap pelumas bekas yaitu sebesar 1/20, 1/10, 1/5, dan 1/3.3 (wt/vol), sedangkan waktu pengendapan yaitu selama 1 hari dan 3 hari. Langkah selanjutnya yaitu proses acid treatment, dimana limbah yang telah panas ditambahkan 98% H2SO4 2 M pada rasio 1/10 (vol/vol) untuk mencapai kondisi asam kemudian ditambahkan bentonit sambil diaduk pada kecepatan 400 rpm selama 10 menit. Proses absorbsi natural dilakukan dengan mendiamkannya selama 1 dan 3 hari, sambil mengendapkan slurry dan menyaringnya untuk mengetahui pengaruh bentonite terhadap kualitas base oil yang dihasilkan. Pengolahan limbah minyak pelumas dengan metode clay treatment menghasilkan oil base terbaik pada rasio 1/3.3 dan waktu absorbsi alamiah selama 3 hari. Hal ini memberikan kualitas densitas sebesar 0,9006 gr/cm3; viskositas kinematis 40°C sebesar 100,9265 cSt; viskositas kinematis 100°C sebesar 11,5684 cSt dan flash point sebesar 238°C yang telah sesuai dengan standar pelumas.

The large number of waste from used lubricants that are not used for a long time changes the physical and chemical properties and produces hazardous wastes which pollute the environment. These problems are minimized by recycling it to base oil. The aims of the final project are to process the used lubricants of heavy equipment by acid clay treatment, and to learn the effect of bentonite as absorbent and sedimentation time toward a quality of produced base oil. The ratio of absorbent and used lubricant is varied into 1/20, 1/10, 1/5, and 1/3.33 (weight/volume), whereas the time sedimentation is 1 and 3 days. The process is initially done by heating of the used lubricant at the temperature of 120 ° C. The next step is the acid treatment process, in which the hot waste is added by 98% H2SO4 2 M at ratio 1/10 (vol/vol) to meet acid condition, and then added by varied absorbent while stirring at 400 rpm for 10 minutes. The absorption process naturally occurs for 1 and 3 days while precipitates the slurry and filter it in order to find out the effect of bentonite addition on the quality of the produced base oil. The acid clay treatment of the used lubricant results the best base oil at the ratio of 1/3.3 and natural absorption time for 3 days. It gives a quality of density of 0.9006 gr / cm3; 40 °C kinematic viscosity of 100,9265 cSt; 100 °C kinematic viscosity of 11,5684 cSt and a flash point of 238 °C in accordance with SNI standard.
