Abstract
===============================================================================================================================
The west coast of Madura Island is a coastal area in Bangkalan Regency which has an important role as a region that supports economic activities in the Surabaya Metropolitan Area. As a coastal area, this region is predicted to experience significant and dynamic coastal changes. This study intends to analyze the trend patterns of Suspended Sediment Concentration (SSC) in 2013, 2015, 2018 and monitor coastline changes on the west coast of Madura Island from 1994 to 2018 using Landsat 30 m resolution satellite imagery. Validation of the SSC values using in situ data in 2019 resulted in an RMSE of 35.137 mg/L and an NMAE of 15.68%. The water color analysis shows that SSC color tends to be darker in the water of Kamal and Arosbaya District. Besides that, values of SSC in the rainy season tend to be higher than those in dry season and the difference in the values of SSC in rainy and dry seasons from the 8 sample points is 162.13 mg/L. Through the sediment transport and flow modeling, it is known that regions with longshore currents experience greater coastline changes than regions with perpendicular currents. Arosbaya District is a district with the most dynamic coastal changes with the formation of tombolo in Tengket Village. Based on the calculation of coastline changes, this tombolo resulted in an increase in the area of Arosbaya District from 1994 to 2018 by 0.84% with a coastline change rate of 3.74 m/yr. In the same period, Sepulu District experienced abrasion of 5.54 m at a rate of 0.23 m/yr. Meanwhile, Bangkalan District tends to be stable and 4 other districts namely Tanjungbumi, Klampis, Socah and Kamal tend to experience accretion between 3.38 m to 19.81 m with a coastline change rate of 0.14 m/yr to 0.83 m/yr.
