Abstract
==================================================================================================================================
Indonesia as a developing country seeks to prosper the nation's life by increasing economic growth, one of which can be as-sessed from the unemployment rate. One way to measure unemployment is to observe the level of open unemployment. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2017, the open unemployment rate of the West Sumatra province is 5.58 percent higher than the national level of only 5.5 percent, besides that there is an increase in the open un-employment rate in West Sumatra from 2016 by 0.49 percent based on these problems, it is necessary to analyze the factors that influence the level of open unemployment in West Sumatra, with predictor variables, namely the level of participation in employment, dependency ratio, and gross high school participation rate and the response variable is the open unemployment rate. Because the results of the scatter plot of each predictor variable on the response variable did not form a specific pa-ttern, in this study a truncated nonparametric spline regression method was used. The best spline nonparametric regression model with the op-timum knot point defined based on the minimum Generalized Cross Va-lidation (GCV) value. The best spline nonparametric regression model is to use three point knots. The variables that influence the level of open unemployment in West Sumatra are the labor force participation rate, the dependency ratio and the high gross enrollment rate with a co-efficient of determination of 97.86%.
