Abstract

Industrial Engineering Department building has two adjacent rooms, Sinar Mas Auditorium and VIP meeting rooms. Important meetings and presentations are often held in the meeting room, that’s why clarity of speech is needed so the conversation is clear and easy to understand. One problem that often occurs in adjacent rooms is sound leakage where sound can enter the room or vice versa. Based on the results of measurement, mathematical calculation, and simulations, it was found that the performance of sound insulation in existing conditions was 22 dB, 18.8 dB, and 24.5 dB. This value does not meet the standard, which is 47 dB. So the redesigned with a combination of models A, B, C have met the standards. Then a measurement and simulation of reverberation time in VIP meeting room is measured, which found a reverberation time value is 1.2 seconds. This value does not meet the standard which is valued at 0.75 seconds. So that a redesign of the porous absorber material like carpet and perforated absorber panels is used, which can reduce the reverberation time of VIP meeting rooms. Furthermore, the objective and subjective speech privacy measures are measured. The results of the objective measurement is SPC 50. This value is quite low, because the minimum speech privacy has a SPC 70 value. And the results of subjective measurements (%correct words) are, 7 of 15 people can listen and understand conversations up to 80% to 90 % of the total words spoken. Then the results of improvements to speech privacy due to improvements of partition walls have entered the standard speech security category.
