Abstract

ditinggalkan, kini kembali dihidupkan.
masyarakat penambang pasir tradisional.
============================================================
The tradition of sand mining in Sungai Brantas has been replaced with the
modern one by using mechanical tools. It causes some issues such as enviromental
damages, economic and social gap between the traditional and modern sand mining
communities, and loss of regional characteristics in the area of Sungai Brantas.
Therefore, the sand mining activities in Sungai Brantas is reinstated by using the
traditional method.
Through critical regionalism approach, the architecural object that has been
proposed to respond this issue is a museum. This museum must be able to represent
the life of traditional sand mining community. It will reintroduce the traditional sand
mining method in a new and different from. This museum aims to remind people
about sand mining tradition, as well as educate them about the enviromentally safesand
mining techniques. It is also expected to create a new identity in the area of
Sungai Brantas, which has a historical attachment with the region of Kediri.
The main concept, Defamiliarization of Tradition tries to bring the qualities of
architecture contains identity, a dinamycs, and forward-looking concept. This concept
is embodied with a design method called Precedent according to the book, Basic
Design Methods written by Kari Jormakka. The precedent that is used in this methods
is “the process of traditional sand mining” which has been recognized by sand mining
community in Sungai Brantas.
