Abstract

Rekayasa terhadap epoksi terus dilakukan sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan
sifat mekanik, ketahanan termal, fisika dan kimia. Rekayasa yang dilakukan berupa
penambahan material lain sebagai curing agent maupun material kedua untuk
meningkatkan sifat dari termoset epoksi. Penggunaan senyawa lain sebagai curing
agent telah lama dikomersialkan, namun kendala yang ditimbulkan adalah
pengaplikasian termoset epoksi pada bidang tertentu terutama pada bidang yang
membutuhkan kekuatan impak dan stabilitas termal masih rendah. Oleh sebab itu,
dibuat senyawa curing agent yang mampu meningkatkan sifat mekanik atau stabilitas
termal. Preparasi bahan penelitian diperoleh melalui sintesis curing agent
menggunakan phthalic anhydride-containing polyaminoamide dan penyediaan
material kedua berupa RTV silicone rubber secara komerisal. Tujuan penelitian
untuk menganalisis pengaruh penambahan RTV silicone rubber dan phthalic
anhydride dengan komposisi (0, 5, 10, 15, 20) wt% terhadap sifat mekanik, stabilitas
termal, sifat fisika dan kimia termoset epoksi. Pengujian dan karakterisasi dilakukan
terhadap termoset epoksi/PAA/RTV silicone rubber maupun terhadap termoset
epoksi/PAA/phthalic anhydride. Untuk penambahan RTV silicone rubber: kekuatan
tarik, elongation at break dan kekerasan mengalami penurunan, kekuatan impak
mengalami peningkatan maksimum pada penambahan 15% RTV silicone rubber
sebesar 6175 J/m2. Temperatur degradasi mengalami peningkatan maksimum pada
penambahan 15% RTV silicone rubber yaitu 328 dan 349oC masing-masing pada 5
dan 10% degradasi. Swell ratio mengalami peningkatan, chemical resistance dan
penyerapan air mengalami penurunan. Pada penambahan Phthalic anhydride:
kekuatan tarik dan kekerasan mengalami penurunan. Elongation at break meningkat
pada 15% PA sebesar 21,55%. Kekuatan impak meningkat pada 20% PA sebesar
5451 J/m2. Temperatur degradasi mengalami penurunan. Swell ratio mengalami
peningkatan, chemical resistance dan penyerapan air mengalami penurunan.

Since the pristine epoxy has several weaknesses, it usually modified by
adding the other materials either as a curing agent as well as a second material that is
able to improve the properties of thermoset epoxy ie, mechanical properties, thermal
stability, physical and chemical properties. Using of other compounds as curing
agents has long been commercialized, but the constraints posed is application of an
epoxy thermoset in specific fields, especially in fields that require impact strength
and thermal stability are still low. Therefore, compound curing agent which can
improve mechanical properties or thermal stability are made. Preparation of research
material obtained by the synthesis of curing agent using phthalic anhydridecontaining
polyaminoamide and provide a second material commerical as RTV
silicone rubber. The purpose of this study was to analyze effect addition of RTV
silicone rubber and phthalic anhydride with composition (0, 5, 10, 15, 20) wt% on the
mechanical properties, thermal stability, chemical and physical properties of
thermoset epoxy. Testing and characterization are applied to both thermoset
epoxy/PAA/RTV silicone rubber and thermoset epoxy/PAA/phthalic anhydride. In
addition RTV silicone rubber: tensile strength, elongation at break and hardness
decreased, impact strength increase at maximum 15% on addition of RTV silicone
rubber is 6175 J / m2. The maximum degradation temperature increase in addition of
15% RTV silicone rubber. It are 328 and 349oC respectively at 5 and 10%
degradation. Swell ratio increase while chemical resistance and water absorption
decrease. In addition phthalic anhydride: tensile strength and hardness is decrease.
Elongation at break increase at 15% PA amounted to 21.55%. Impact strength
increase at 20% PA amounting 5451 J/m2. Degradation temperature has decrease
after addition of phthalic anhydride. Swell ratio is increase, chemical resistance and
water absorption decrease.
