Abstract
Kegagalan berupa pecahnya riser wall tube nomor 3
telah terjadi pada PLTU unit 2 PT X pada daerah sekitar
pembakaran batubara dan sootblower mengakibatkan siklus
boiler harus berhenti. Riser tube pada boiler berfungsi untuk
mengaliri campuran uap dan air dari pipa dinding furnace
menuju water-steam separator. Untuk mengetahui penyebab dan
mekanisme kegagalan serta mencegah hal yang serupa terjadi
lagi, analisa kegagalan pada riser wall tube perlu dilakukan. Uji
makroskopik, uji komposisi kimia, uji XRD, uji mikroskop optik,
uji SEM, dan uji kekerasan dilakukan untuk mendukung hasil
analisa. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan adanya nilai kekerasan
tube pada daerah patahan yang naik diiringi dengan bertambah
panjangnya butir dengan struktur mikro yang terlihat adalah
pearlite dan ferrite. Sementara ditemukan juga penipisan tube
dengan ketebalan tidak mencapai ketebalan yang diijinkan serta
terbentuknya fasa Fe8N pada tube. Setelah dillakukan pengujian
dan analisa, maka ditemukan faktor penyebab dan mekanisme
kegagalan.

Riser wall tube has been broken by tube depletion. The
location of the broken tube is beside sootblower at coal
combustion area. It affected the boiler at unit 2 shutted down.
Riser tube has an important role on boiler component because its
function to flow the mixture of water-steam from furnace tube to
water-steam separator. Failure analysis of riser wall tube had to
do for analysing the failure cause factor and failure mechanism
of the tube and preventing the similar failure happen on another
day. Macroscopic testing, optical emmison spectroscopy testing,
microscope optic testing, SEM testing, and Brinnel hardness
testing have been done to support analysis. The result of testing
shows the increase of hardness number of tube at broken area of
the tube including grain elongation with Ferrite and Pearlite
microstrucre. Meanwhile there are three spot thickness of the
tube lower than the allowable minimum thickness with Fe8N
phasec formed. After all testing and analysis complete, the cause
factor and mechanism of failure could be found.
