Abstract
Proses gurdi merupakan proses pemesinan yang sering
dilakukan untuk pembuatan lubang pada material komposit.
Kinerja dari proses gurdi pada material komposit dapat
dievaluasi berdasarkan beberapa karakteristik kualitas seperti
gaya tekan, torsi, kebulatan dan kekasaran permukaan.
Suatu penelitian telah dilakukan pada proses penggurdian
material komposit glass 7781/epoxy. Rancangan percobaan yang
digunakan berupa matriks ortogonal L18 (21 x 33). Variabel atau
faktor yang divariasikan adalah jenis pahat, sudut ujung pahat,
kecepatan makan dan kecepatan spindel. Masing-masing variabel
yang diteliti memiliki tiga level kecuali jenis pahat yang memiliki
dua level. Optimasi dilakukan dengan menggunakan gabungan
metode Taguchi-grey relational analysis (GRA).
Berdasarkan hasil eksperimen, variabel proses jenis
pahat memiliki kontribusi sebesar 40,61%, sudut ujung pahat
sebesar 8,23%, kecepatan makan sebesar 27,71% dan kecepatan
spindel sebesar 17,48% untuk mengurangi variansi total dari
respon gaya tekan, torsi, kebulatan dan kekasaran permukaan
secara serentak. Pengaturan yang tepat untuk mengurangi
variansi total dari respon secara serentak adalah jenis pahat
menggunakan HSS-Cobalt, sudut ujung pahat diatur pada 90 °,
kecepatan makan diatur pada 100 mm/menit dan kecepatan
spindel diatur pada 2500 rpm.

Drilling is one of the important operations for hole
making in composite structure, and usually used for a final
operation like assembly. Drilling performance can be evaluated
based on quality characteristic like thrust force, torque,
circularity and surface roughnes.
A research was conducted for optimization of the drilling
process of glass 7781/epoxy composites, with multiple
performance characteristic based on the orthogonal array with
Taguchi-grey relational analysis method. The experimental
studies were conducted under varying the drilling process
variables, i.e., tool material, point angle (°), feed rate (mm/min)
and spindle speed (rpm). The optimized multiple performances
characteristic were thrust force, torque, circularity, and surface
roughness. The quality characteristic of all responses was
smaller-is-better. Since all process variables had three levels,
except tool material which had two levels. The experimental
design used L18 orthogonal array with replication.
Experimental results have shown that machining
performance in the drilling process can be improved effectively
through this method. The drilling process variables which
significantly affected thrust force, torque, circularity, and surface
roughness are tool material followed by feed rate, spindle speed
and point angle
