Abstract

Telah dilakukan penelitian tentang karakterisasi bentuk
partikel SiC yang dilapisi spinel (MgAl2O4) dengan menggunakan
metode electroless platting. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk
mengetahui pembentukkan spinel pada permukaan partikel SiC
melalui tahapan awal pembentukkan lapisan SiO2 serta
mengidentifikasi parameter bentuk partikel. Variasi yang
digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah waktu penahanan 2, 6, 10
dan 14 jam pada suhu pemanasan 12000C. Karakterisasi yang
digunakan untuk menganalisis material SiC yang telah dioksidasi
maupun material SiC yang telah dilapisi dengan spinel yaitu XRD
(X-ray Diffraction), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) dan
EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy). Hasil analisis
menunjukkan bahwa seiring peningkatan holding time, maka
semakin tebal lapisan SiO2. Spinel yang terbentuk adalah semakin
homogen di permukaan partikel SiC berdasarkan spektrum EDS.
Pelapisan SiO2 dan spinel akan mempengaruhi beberapa
parameter bentuk partikel, yaitu menurunkan nilai Bulkines
Factor (Bf), menurunkan nilai Shape Factor (Ks) dan
meningkatkan nilai perimetri.

A research about characterization of particle shape SiC
coated with spinel (MgAl2O4) using electroless platting has been
completed. The purposes of the research are determining the spinel
formation on the surface of SiC particles through the formation of
the SiO2 layer and identifying the parameters of particle shape.
Variations that used in this research was holding time 2, 6, 10 and
14 hours in heating temperature 12000C. Characterization were
done using XRD (X-ray Diffraction), SEM (Scanning Electron
Microscopy) and EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy). The
results showed that SiO2 layer increased as the increasing of
holding time. Spinel has formed homogeneously on the surface of
SiC particles based on EDS spectrum. The coating of SiO2 and
spinel would affect the particle shape parameters, such as
decreasing the value of Bulkines Factor (Bf), decreasing the value
of Shape Factor (Ks) and increasing the value of perimetry.
