Abstract

Connecting Rod adalah bagian penting dalam system
kerja mesin. Namun sering terjadi kegagalan yang disebabkan
berbagai macam hal, sehingga kinerja mesin tidak bisa berjalan
maksimal. Dalam penelitian ini berisi tentang analisa kegagalan
dari connecting rod tipe Mahle pada auxiliary engine MAN D
2840 LE yang telah menjadi masalah utama pada PT. Meratus
Line Surabaya. Kegagalan yang terjadi berupa patahnya
connecting rod yang disebabkan karena patah getas
transgranular. Hal ini didukung oleh hasil pengujian OES, SEM,
metalografi, Hardness, dan visual. Selain patah getas, penyebab
kegagalan pada connecting rod ini adalah patah lelah, hal ini
dikarenakan tegangan yang diterima material adalah tegangan
yang siklik dan terus menerus. Diharapkan hasil pada tugas akhir
ini bisa untuk acuan ilmu berikutnya

engine system. However there are many failure caused by several
things, so the performance of machine could not run optimally. In
this thesis contains analysis of the failure of a connecting rod-type
Mahle on auxiliary engine MAN D 2840 LE which has become a
major problem in PT. Meratus Line Surabaya. Failures that occur
in the form of connecting rod fracture due to brittle fracture
transgranular. This is supported by the results of testing of OES,
SEM, metallographic, hardness, and visual. Another problem that
caused the failure of the connecting rod is connecting rod receive
continous stress, that make the material fatigue. Expected results
in this thesis can for subsequent reference science
