Abstract
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) adalah bahan bakar alternatif yang sedang dikembangkan untuk menggantikan bahan bakar minyak. Bahan bakar ini dianggap lebih bersih jika dibandingkan dengan bahan bakar minyak karena emisi gas buangnya yang ramah lingkungan. CNG dibuat dengan melakukan kompresi gas metana (CH4) yang diekstrak dari gas alam. CNG didistribusikan melewati pipeline dan kemudian disimpan dalam suatu baja tekan yang didesain sedemikian rupa sehingga mampu menyimpan gas bertekanan sampai 250 barg tersebut. Pemerintah Indonesia, dalam hal ini PT PJB telah membangun CNG storage plant di Muara Tawar, Bekasi, Jawa Barat pada tahun 2013. Storage plant tersebut mulai beroperasi pada tahun 2014. Dasar pembangunan CNG storage plant ini adalah untuk menyimpan sementara kelebihan supply gas pada waktu beban rendah, sehingga dapat memenuhi kebutuhan gas pada saat beban puncak. Adapun permasalahan yang ada pada saat ini adalah ketika proses pengisian tube skid sedang berlangsung, terdapat beberapa compressor yang mengalami shutdown secara tiba-tiba. Penelitian ini dilakukan melalui studi computational fluid dynamicS menggunakan software GAMBIT 2.4.6 dalam tahapan pembuatan domain dan pembuatan mesh.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is an alternative fuel that is being developed to replace fossil fuels. It is considered cleaner than the fossil fuel because its emission gas is ecofriendly. CNG is made by compressing methane (CH4), which is extracted from natural gas. CNG distributed through the pipeline and then stored in pressure vessels which are designed to be able to store up to 250 barg. PT. Pembangkitan Jawa Bali (PJB) has built CNG storage plant in Muara Tawar, Bekasi, West Java in 2013. The storage plant has begun operating in 2014. The main purpose of constructing the CNG storage plant is to store the surplus of gas supply temporarily at normal loads, so it can be used during peak loads. But there is a problem when the compression process is ongoing. The problem is several compressors get tripping although the storage’s pressure have not reach 250 barg yet. This research was conducted based on numerical study using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software. Software GAMBIT 2.4.6 was used to make and to mesh the domain.
