Abstract

Society of Automotive engineer mengadakan suatu ajang
kompetisi yaitu berupa formula student of automotive engineer,
berupa carbon fiber tube.
carbon fiber

Society of Automotive Engineer held a competition
called Formula Student of Automotive Engineer, to challenge
students around the world to design, and build a formula car.
Sepuluh Nopember Institut of Technology Surabaya named as a
participant to design a formula car named Sapuangin Speed using
the engine with its capacity of 450 cc. the competition consisted
by several event which are acceleration, skid pad, autocross,
efficiency, and endurance. In the event, sapuangin speed formula
car will be tested for its endurance and manueverability. So
improvement is needed by ITS Team Sapuangin in reliability,
manueverability dan weight reduction to get a better result and
achieved a top tenth finish on Student Formula Japan. One of the
methods of weight reduction in sapuangin speed are re-designing
a lightweight suspension system. To achieved that, the material of
suspension system are replaced by carbon fiber tube on its A-arm.
This paper contains analyze about the strength of an Aarm carbon fiber tube with finite element method for Sapuangin
Speed, so the best design can be obtained for an A-arm of
sapuangin speed that can pass all of static event and dynamic
event of the competition. Simulation model will use two method
of analysis which are, static analysis by force from the mass of
the car, and dynamic analysis by force when the car is on
maneuver in several event of student formula japan which are
skidpad, brake test, and acceleration. From the analysis about vehicle dynamic of Sapuangin
Speed, it obtained that the greatest normal force on the right front
and rear wheel in skidpad event respectively are 782,812 N, and
901,402 N. the greatest centrifugal force in skidpad event is
2.8346 N, the greatest thrust force in accelereation event is
1.384,6 N, and the force needed to bring the car into full stop in
brake test is 1.594,65 N. Based on the simulation, it obtained that
the front upper arm for the type 1 and type 2 are safe with 11
layers of carbon fiber, and for the front lower arm type 1 dan type
2 also safe with 11 layers of carbon fiber. For the rear upper arm
type 1 and type 2 are safe with 16 layers of carbon fiber, while for
the rear lower arm type 1 and type 2 also safe with 16 layers of
carbon fiber
