Abstract

1,1,1-Trichloro -2,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)ethane (DDT) is an organic pollutant that
persisten in nature and has bad effect for the environment, animal and human.
Phlebia brevispora has an ability to degrade DDT, but still relatively low and
need longer time. In this study, the effect of adding bacteria (Pseudomonas
aeruginosa, Bacillus subtilis, and Ralstonia pickettii) on biodegradation of DDT
by P. brevispora was investigated, which each bacterium was added by 1, 3, 5, 7
and mL into 10 mL P. brevispora culture. Degradation of DDT by P. brevispora
without addition of bacteria was 64%. However, the addition of P. aeruginosa
was able to increase the degradation of DDT by P.brevispora completely (100%).
1,1-dichloro-2,2-bis(4-chlorophenyl)ethane (DDD) and 1-chloro-2,2-bis(4-
chlorophenyl)ethylene (DDMU) were metabolite product of DDT. Reductive
dechlorination was the first step reaction on DDT biodegradation process by P.
brevispora with the addition of P. aeruginosa.
