Abstract

Microplastic is a type of marine debris that is smaller than 5 mm. The range of microplastic particle size can cause fish to swallow microplastic directly and indirectly. One of Indonesia's coastal areas that is polluted by marine debris is the Tuban Sea waters. The presence of microplastic can impact on marine biota, especially fish that ingest microplastics, translocation will occur across the digestive tract and transferred various organs in fish. Microplastic analysis of the pelagic and demersal gastrointestinal tracts in Tuban Sea waters was carried out visually and the type of polymer testing was carried out using FT-IR.
The results showed that the number of microplastic particles identified in the digestive tract of pelagic fish was more than demersal fish and the dominant form was fiber (62%) with black color and dominant size ranging from 100-500 μm (72%). Based on the FTIR test, the types of polymers found were polyethylene and polyamide.
