Abstract

The number of data center has been increasing in the last few years due to the demand of a processing and storage for the internet and cloud computing. Data center facility has high heat loads, which result in a large amount of energy consumption. The growth in the heat densities of IT servers leads to a rise in the energy needed for cooling and constitutes approximately 40% of the power consumed by data centers. Therefore, improving the energy efficiency of data centers has become a research focus in recent years. In this study, analysis of the effect of changes in supply air conditioning temperature on the refrigeration capacity and compressor work, server power, and power usage effectiveness (PUE) of data centers was carried out using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). AC supply temperature was set on the range between 19 and 25oC. The simulation results indicate that the highest and lowest refrigeration capacity values at 22oC AC supply temperatures are 81,38 and 5,24 kW, respectively. The optimal AC supply temperature is found at 22oC because it has a fairly low overall server power of 84,17 kW and yields the lowest non-IT power compared to other AC supply temperature with non-IT power of 130,33 kW and also, AC power on 22oC AC supply temperature yields the lowest value than other AC supply temperature with AC power of 29,53 kW.
