Abstract

Seiring dengan menipisnya cadangan bijih sulfida, pengolahan bijih laterit kian digencarkan demi kebutuhan nikel tetap dapat dipenuhi. Metode reduksi selektif menjadi salah satu pilihan yang patut dipertimbangkan untuk mengolah laterit karena dinilai ramah lingkungan serta konsumsi energi yang lebih rendah. Selama ini pengembangan metode reduksi selektif terkonsentrasi pada agen selektivitas yang digunakan. Kondisi ini perlu diperluas agar efisiensi dan efektivitas proses reduksi selektif dalam mengolah laterit semakin optimal. Salah satu topik yang butuh diteliti lebih dalam adalah reduktor setelah penggunaannya menunjukkan indikasi dapat mengoptimalkan proses reduksi selektif laterit. Demi mengetahui lebih dalam bagaimana dampak penggunaan reduktor terhadap proses ini, review paper ini pun dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh reduktor terhadap kadar serta recovery nikel dan besi dalam produk hasil reduksi selektif bijih nikel laterit. Metode review paper yang dilakukan berbasis pada hasil karakterisasi produk yaitu komposisi kimianya, terutama kadar nikel dan besi. Hasil review paper menunjukkan bahwa penambahan reduktor berlebih menekan kadar nikel tetapi meningkatkan recovery nikel, besi dan kadar besi. Diperoleh jumlah penambahan reduktor yang direkomendasikan untuk limonit sebesar 5wt% dan saprolit sebesar 15wt% tetapi hasil yang optimal didapatkan melalui kalkulasi potensial reduksi.

Along with the depletion of sulfide ore reserves, producing nickel from laterite type ore are become popular recently. The selective reduction method is one of the options that need to be considered because this process is claimed to be environmentally friendly and have low energy consumption. Reductant is one of the factors that effecting the efficiency of this process. To find out how was the effect of using reductant in this process, this paper review was aimed of to find the effect of reductant towards the grade and recovery of nickel and iron. The method of this paper review is based on the results of product characterization, namely its chemical composition, especially nickel and iron content. So far, the development of selective reduction method are concentrated on the used selectivity agent. This condition needs to be expanded to provide more efficient and effective selective reduction process for processing laterite ore. One of the topics that need to be deeply studied is the effect of reductant after showing an indication of optimalization of the laterite selective reduction process. Result of this paper review show that the excess addition of reducing agent will surpress the nickel content in the product. In the other hand, it will improve the recovery of nickel, iron and also the grade of iron in product. The recommended amount of reductants addition for limonite is 5wt% and saprolite is 15wt% but the optimal results are obtained through the calculation of the reduction potential.
