Abstract

======================================================================================Noise can effect comfort while driving and when in a room. To reduce this noise, sound absorbing material is used. Natural fiber-based sound absorber is a material that is being developed in dealing with these problems. This review writing does not use the experimental research method, but uses the paper review method. Thickness is a factor that influences the value of sound absorption, so this paper review aims to analyze the effect of natural fiber thickness for sound absorption. Natural fiber material used in this paper review is oil palm, wool, and kenaf. Based on the results of a journal review, it was concluded that increasing thickness will increase the value of sound absorption (α). Porosity and roughness of the fiber also determine in several studies, so that the highest α doesn’t depend on increasing the thickness of natural fibers. Each type of natural fiber has a certain thickness limit to reach the highest α value at the frequency 0 - 2000 Hz. The best range of thickness and value of α for each type of natural fiber are palm oil fibers (16 - 50 mm and 0.6 - 0.97), kenaf fibers (20 - 60 mm and 0.57 - 0.99), and wool fibers (12-100 mm and 0.7 - 0.97).
