Abstract

Material baru yang kuat dan ringan merupakan fokus utama pada dunia penelitian maupun industri. Komposit merupakan jenis material baru dengan mengandalkan matriks dan penguatnya. Unsaturated polyester merupakan salah satu jenis matriks yang memiliki sifat ketahanan terhadap air dan kimia yang baik. Namun, unsaturated polyester memiliki keterbatasan dalam sifat mekaniknya yang kaku. Komposit berpenguat nanopartikel merupakan salah satu metode untuk meningkatkan sifat mekanik, serta ketahanan termal pada komposit polyester. Nanopartikel dengan berbagai macam jenis telah diteliti pengaruhnya terhadap polimer unsaturated polyester. Pada tinjauan ini, telah dipelajari pengaruh dari penambahan nanopartikel terhadap morfologi menggunakan SEM, sifat mekanik berupa kekuatan tarik, kekuatan tekan, dan kekuatan lentur dari bentuk dan jenis partikel nanosilika, nanoalumina, multi-walled carbon nanotubes, halloysite nanotubes, dan montmorillonite nanoclay terhadap nanokomposit polimer unsaturated polyester. Didapatkan pada semua jenis penambahan nanopartikel telah memengaruhi morfologi dari nanokomposit. Kemudian, didapatkan semua jenis nanopartikel pada tinjauan ini juga meningkatkan sifat mekanik dengan penambahan pada rasio tertentu.

New materials that are strong and lightweight are the main focus in the world of research and industry. Composite is a new type of material by relying on the matrix and its reinforcement. Unsaturated polyester is a type of matrix that has good chemical and water resistance properties. However, unsaturated polyester has limitations in its rigid mechanical properties. Composite with nanoparticle reinforcement is one method to improve mechanical properties, as well as thermal resistance in polyester composites. Nanoparticles of various types have been investigated for their effects on unsaturated polyester polymers. In this review, the effect of the addition of nanoparticles on morphology using SEM, the mechanical properties of tensile strength, compressive strength, and flexural strength of the shape and type of nanosilica particles, nanoalumines, multi-walled carbon nanotubes, halloysite nanotubes, and montmorillonite nanoclay to nanocomposite unsaturated polyester polymers. It was found that the addition of all types of nanoparticles has influenced the morphology of the nanocomposite. Then, it was found that all types of nanoparticles in this review also improved mechanical properties by adding to certain ratios.
