Abstract

Pada tahun 2018 konsumsi baja nasional mengalami peningkatan sebesar 11% atau mencapai 15,1 juta ton dimana menurut Direktur Eksekutif Asosiasi Industri Besi dan Baja Indonesia (IISIA), Yerry Idroes mengatakan konsumsi baja nasional masih didominasi penggunaan raw material besi scrap. dengan ketersediaan bijih besi yang melimpah, Indonesia dapat mengolah bijih besi menjadi besi spons yang memiliki nilai lebih. Bahan baku yang biasa digunakan untuk metode ini antara lain adalah bijih besi, reducing agent (batubara, kokas, arang, gas, dll), dan flux agent (batu kapur). Dilakukan pengujian karakterisasi untuk bijih besi, batu kapur, dan sponge iron menggunakan XRD dan EDX untuk mengetahui unsur dan senyawa yang terkandung serta melakukan pengujian proksimat pada reduktan untuk mengetahui fixed carbon, volatile mater, dan moisture content. Pada penelitian yang sudah dilakukan, didapatkan temperatur dengan hasil paling optimal pada 1000°C - 1200°C. Pada beberapa kasus penelitian yang sudah dilakukan, didapatkan hasil yang berbeda walaupun menggunakan temperatur proses yang sama. Hal ini disebabkan karena karakteristik bahan yang digunakan seperti bijih besi, reduktan, dan batu kapur memiliki karakteristik yang berbeda serta waktu proses yang digunakan.

With the availability of abundant iron ore, Indonesia can process iron ore into sponge iron which has more value. Raw materials commonly used for this method include iron ore, reducing agent (coal, coke, charcoal, gas, etc.), and flux agent (limestone). Characterization testing was carried out for iron ore, limestone, and sponge iron using XRD and EDX to determine the elements and compounds contained and do proximate testing on reductants to determine fixed carbon, volatile material, and moisture content. In the research that has been done, the temperature with the most optimal results is obtained at 1000 ° C - 1200 ° C. In some cases the research that has been done, obtained different results even though using the same process temperature. This is because the characteristics of the materials used such as iron ore, reductant, and limestone have different characteristics and the processing time used.
