Abstract

“Orela” crew boat is a semi-planing boat owned by PT. Orela Shipyard used for company’s operational purposes especially in coastal area. In order to increase its operational efficiency, a hull vane will be installed on the boat. Basically, hull vane is a hydrofoil installed at the stern part of the ship that can reduce ship resistance due to its lift force. The lift force could create a trim correction effect while the ship is sailing. In previous research, a simulation on the hull vane has been done with 2 degrees of angle of attack. But the result shows that 2 degrees of angle of attack is not the best setup or not optimal for every boat speed. Therefore in this research, CFD simulations is done with variations in hull vane angle of attack and boat speed in order to obtain the optimal hull vane angle of attack for every boat speed. The angle of attacks that used for the CFD simulations are 0 degree, 2 degrees, 4 degrees, dan 6 degrees with 11 knots, 17 knots, 20 knots, and 26 knots of speed. For 11 knots of speed, boat with 0 degree hull vane generated the most resistance reduction with reduction of 26,99%. Meanwhile for 17 knots of speed, boat with 0 degree hull vane generated the fewest resistance addition with addition of 0,94%. For 20 knots of speed, boat with 4 degrees hull vane generated the fewest resistance addition with addition of 14,92%. And the last is 26 knots of speed, the result shows that boat with 4 degrees hull vane generated the fewest resistance addition with addition of 33,50%.
